Manchester Central still has the X Factor!
Published at 15:51 on 5th of August 2010
Queues gathered in large numbers outside Manchester Central on Firday 9 July as the Manchester leg of the live auditions for X-Factor returned to the city centre venue.
Manchester Central’s central hall was transformed into the stage where the X Factor contestants tried to impress judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, and guest judge Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls. Cheryl Cole fans were disappointed as the Girls Aloud star had to miss the Manchester leg of the auditions due to illness.
Taking place between the 9 – 11 July, the singing hopefuls had to impress not just the judges, but also the 1,500 strong live audience, who were eagerly waiting outside the iconic arches of the Manchester Central Convention Centre since the early hours of Friday morning. Last years winner, Joe McElderry, had his live audition at Manchester Central, so the audience will be looking out for another potential X Factor King or Queen.
Commenting, Manchester Central’s Sales Director Paula Lorimer said: “We are absolutely delighted that the X Factor has once again chosen Manchester Central as the venue for its live auditions. The venue’s Central Hall has a history steeped in music, and the hopefuls will be taking to the stage under the famous arches that have also welcomed music greats such as Oasis, Take That, Kings of Leon, Prince and many many more!”
Paula added: “We wish all the X Factor hopefuls auditioning at Manchester Central the best of luck in the competition, and maybe one day we’ll welcome them back for their own headline concert!”
