Renowned as a centre of sporting excellence, Manchester is recognised throughout the world as the home of football. But it is also synonymous with many other sports and most recently, the success of British Cycling brought Manchester to world attention as the training base of the GB cycling team. In 2009, it was the location for a record breaking street race, when triple Olympic gold-medallist Usain Bolt cruised to victory in the fastest ever time run over 150m. Manchester City's current stadium is the City of Manchester Stadium, a state-of-the-art 48,000-seater stadium situated in East Manchester. The stadium has been City's home since the end of the 2002–03 season, when the club moved from Maine Road and is often the setting for an exciting Premier League match!

Since its formation Lancashire has played its home matches at Old Trafford, located in Stretford, to the west of Manchester city centre. Old Trafford is one of the largest cricket venues in the United Kingdom, and has played host to international matches since 1884. Lancashire County Cricket Club are one of the eighteen clubs which make up the English County Championship, represents. Its limited-overs team is called Lancashire Lightning.

Mancheste Velodrome is the National Cycling Centre located at Sportcity (just behind Asda Wal-Mart). The centre is the proud home of the multi-medal winning Team GB Olympic track cycling team as well as the headquarters of British Cycling. Regarded as one of the finest sporting facilities of its kind in the world, the Manchester Velodrome has developed a reputation for excellence which serves not just the elite athletes, but is open and accessible to the local community.

Manchester Aquatics Centre is the purpose-built, state-of-the-art swimming facility, situated in the centre of Manchester (close to the Universities), that stands as a fantastic legacy to the success of the Commonwealth Games 2002. It is the only complex in the UK with two 50-metre pools as well as separate diving and leisure pools.

Edgeley Park is the home to two sporting outfits: Sale Sharks Rugby Union Club and Stockport County Football Club. The Willows in Salford is the proud home of the Salford City Reds Rugby League Team, with the Reds competing in the engage Super League. The League features fourteen teams: twelve from England, one from Wales and one from France, which compete from February to October.

The Chill Factore is a real snow indoor ski centre located in the Trafford Park area of Manchester. It opened in November 2007 ]at which time it was the longest in the United Kingdom and the widest in the world. Belle Vue Stadium is greyhound racing track where the very first race around an oval track in Britain was held on July 24, 1926. It is also used for speedway as the home ground of Elite League team Belle Vue Aces since 1988 and since 1999 has British Stock Car Association who are the British governing body for Stock car racing and Banger racing.

The golf club, at Hopwood Park, is an 18 hole championship standard course designed by Harry Shapland Colt. It is a superb mixture of parkland and moorland set in some 240 acres. The Club has an extensive driving range and practice area incorporating covered teeing areas, providing the ideal place to warm up before a round. The professional shop stocks a wide range of equipment, clothing and accessories.
