David Cameron has hailed the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester as the party’s “most successful, dynamic conference for 20 years”.

Speaking to a full auditorium at Manchester Central Convention Complex earlier this month, the Conservative leader went on to thank everyone involved, including Greater Manchester Police and his “chum” Conservative Party Chairman, Eric Pickles.

Commenting on the success of the conference, Eric Pickles, said; “Our party conference was a huge success and I would like to thank Manchester for such a warm welcome. The conference gave Manchester a much-needed financial shot in the arm in difficult times and provided a boost to the local economy. The facilities offered by Manchester Central and all the local hotels helped make this a conference to remember.”

The 4-day conference attracted around 12,000 delegates to the City and generated an estimated £16 million for the region’s economy.

Commenting, Lesley Tomlinson, Chief Executive of Manchester Central said; Events of this size attract thousands of visitors to the City and generate significant economic benefits. We have been investing in our facilities so that we can attract more large events and make a greater contribution to Manchester’s economy by increasing business tourism.”

Lesley added; “For Manchester Central, the Conservative Party conference was a huge success. We have a very committed and talented team, who all put in an enormous amount of effort; with the help of our partners throughout the City, we delivered a world-class event that Manchester can be proud of.”

The Conservative Party Conference 2009 took place from the 5 – 8 October. The Conservative Party will return to Manchester Central in 2011.
