Corporate social responsibility

Our commitment

As a major venue and employer in the city of Manchester, Manchester Central is working with the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester to engage in projects that reflect its commitment to the local community and its corporate social responsibilities.

The Community Foundation is a grant-making non-profit organisation committed to building stronger communities across the region by investing in and supporting a range of projects and local initiatives.

The relationship with Community Foundation was borne out a desire to ensure that  Manchester Central could provide support to groups and projects within its local area that would not receive adequate support or recognition from traditional sources. Many of these are community projects and local initiatives, in which people help each other. Often these are groups that do not have professional fund-raising capabilities so funding and resources are often strained. One such initiative is “Men Behaving Dadly”, a support group for fathers and their children — some are single parent families and some are families where the parents of the children are no longer together. The group encourages dads who only have weekend access to their children to meet and share quality time together.

Manchester Central is committed to supporting such initiatives, working with the Community Foundation to identify the most deserving causes. The company has committed to making a financial contribution every year to support the work of the Foundation, but it intends to take this further by encouraging its own staff to nominate causes that deserve support. In due course, it may also invite clients to recognise and support such local causes, so that during events there may be opportunities to highlight teh work of the Foundation and invite support for it.

Since 1989 the Community Foundation has distributed more than £20 million of grant support to more than 8,000 grass root community projects and initiatives throughout Greater Manchester. For more information, please visit www.communityfoundation.co.uk.
